Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey (born August 9, 1938) is an American author, best known for her novel A Woman of Independent Means, which was adapted into a successful television miniseries in 1995. She was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in journalism. Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a newspaper reporter, a public relations associate, and a scriptwriter for radio and television. Hailey's other novels include The Life of the Party, The Wedding Dress, and October Baby. She has been honored with several awards for her work, including the Texas Institute of Letters Award, the National Women's Book Association Award, and the Sally Adair Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature. Hailey lives in Dallas, Texas, with her husband.
